Testing Tools for Dot Net Projects : A Concept Note

Most awaited topic on place at last. At least I tried googling a lot for this type of article, where I can have a discussion on the available tools that can be exploited to test Dot Net projects. Yes, surely the automated tools like QTP or LoadRunner can be deployed on the production environment.

Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate is bundled with some testing tools. Apart from manual testing feature the Coded UI test is one tool which can be used to test your User Interfaces developed for Windows/Web based application. This suite can be utilized for performance and load testing as well. The Ultimate edition has a limitation of virtual users, it can take 250 virtual users by default. Though more virtual users can be added using Visual Studio Load Test Virtual User Pack 2010.

If you do not have budget for the Ultimate Edition, you can opt for Visual Studio Test Professional Edition. The details can be obtained from http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/test-professional/overview.

You might be wondering about the latest usage of the technologies like WPF, AJAX etc. Yes, those can also be tested.

Apart from Visual studio testing, you can also download a free tool named Telerik Free Testing Framework. That can be downloaded and configured with your Visual Studio. The download link is given below. http://www.telerik.com/automated-testing-tools/free-testing-framework.aspx.

That free framework has got the capability of getting integrated with other testing framework for dot net like NUnit, MbUnit or XUnit.

Note: This brief overview of testing tool can be considered as a concept note only. For further details, please refer to the respective sites. This concept note is not responsible for any harm or damage caused  to your system due to installation of the tools. I tried to give you all a brief overview about the tools. I tested some of them in my own system, for learning purpose only.
